What Comes With This Crossbow?

Hey there, and welcome to my review of the Man Kung 150lb Camo Recurve Rifle Crossbow. When you unbox your new hunting toy, you can expect to find the following in the package:

How Difficult Is It to Assemble Your New Crossbow?

Putting this crossbow together was pretty easy, despite the fact that the owner’s manual leaves quite a bit to be desired. Attach the riser to the stock, mount the foot stirrup, and you’re ready to go. The only “gotcha” here is that the Allen wrench required to secure the components isn’t included, so make sure you have a bow wrench on hand. You should also make sure you have a bow stringer available, because yours may not come already strung.

What’s the Accuracy and Power Like?

Man Kung 150lb Recurve Rifle Crossbow ReviewThis is a beginner’s crossbow, so it’s not the most powerful one on the market. With 210 FPS of shooting speed, you’ll probably see kinetic energy in the 40 ft-lb. vicinity at point blank range, assuming you use 400-gr arrows. This is more than enough power to take down a deer, but you won’t be able to use this particular x-bow for anything larger than that.

Accuracy is quite good out to 60 yards, as long as your skill is up to par. The whole package is a bit front-heavy, but it’s still remarkably well balanced for such an inexpensive model. Unfortunately, there’s no scope or red dot sight included, just iron sights, so if you want to make the most of your investment you’ll need to mount your own scope or sight on the 7/8″ rail.

Will Hunters Enjoy the Man Kung?

From a hunter’s perspective, this x-bow is great for hunting anything up to the size of a buck. It powers out 40 foot-pounds of kinetic energy, which is the recommended amount of KE for taking down a deer. If you want to hunt larger game, you’ll need a faster and more powerful crossbow.

Weight is about what you’d expect, at just over five pounds, and axle-to-axle width is 26 inches. That might be a bit wide for some ground blinds, but it’s still pretty easy to maneuver. Plus, you won’t have that full width to deal with when the crossbow is cocked, making your job even easier.

How Difficult Is the Crossbow to Cock?

With a 150 pound draw weight, this crossbow is relatively easy to cock. It doesn’t come with a rope cocking device, unfortunately, but those are inexpensive enough to add to your purchase. I highly recommend using a rope cocker, since it ensures you get the most even pull on the string and it reduces your effort considerably.

The draw is smooth and steady, thanks to the recurve design. There’s a bit of stacking near the end of the draw, but using a rope cocking device all but eliminates this.

What’s the Included Sight Like?

Unfortunately, all you get in the box are iron sights. That really can’t be unexpected, though, given the inexpensive price of the crossbow. However, the problem is that the iron sights are next to impossible to sight in. I ended up adding on my favorite scope to the crossbow and achieved excellent results with it.

What Kind of Bolts Do I Need?

In the package, you’ll find two 14″ aluminum crossbow bolts. Since that length is difficult to find, I’ve been using the crossbow with 20″ carbon crossbow arrows. For the best ratio of energy to speed, make sure you go with 400-450 grain arrows, giving you the most bang for your buck. The included arrows, I should add, bend and break easily. Buy more.

How’s the Safety and Design?

This is a pretty low-end crossbow, but it still includes an anti-dry fire mechanism. The pistol grip offers a semi-open trigger, making it easy to fire the crossbow even when you’re wearing gloves. Man Kung builds this model with an aluminum riser, plastic stock, and fiberglass limb. It’s lightweight and easy to carry.

The grip is comfortable and ergonomic, with plenty of room to keep your fingers away from the flight rail. The butt stock fits nicely against the shoulder, giving you a steady shot once you have your target acquired and your aim set.

What Kind of Warranty Backs This Crossbow?

This crossbow only comes with a 90 day warranty, but that doesn’t cover the string or damage caused from misuse and/or dry-firing the crossbow. Make sure you fill out the warranty card and send it back straight away.

Customer service is a bit spotty, since Man Kung is a Chinese manufacturer that sells to a variety of resellers. I haven’t had any problems with the company I bought the crossbow from, but your mileage may vary. 1. This bow has no catch for a cocking rope. I improvised and used the trigger guard. The open design makes this relatively easy. The included rear sight is cheap and has already been lost. A prism or dot style works very well.

  2. Just picked one of these up and after shooting the 4 times the string will not cock back into the receiver. It can be pulled up, by does not stay in place. Any suggestions???

    1. Also, I’ve ensured it’s in fire before trying to cock it. I think it may be stuck in safety or something. Clocks easily into safety, but kinda hard to move into fire
