- World-class accuracy and bolt acceleration
- Comes with one of the finer crossbow scopes on the market
- Take down moose and bigger game comfortably from well over 45+ yards
- Built-in cocking aid (ACUdraw-50)
- Unlike some other TenPoint models, this package comes with a 3-pack of bolts
- Would have preferred ACUdraw than ACUdraw-50
- I would have liked for it to be half a pound lighter

TenPoint Lazer HP Package Contents
Welcome to our TenPoint Lazer HP crossbow review. The package I ordered online in January last year included these items:
- The Lazer HP crossbow (stock, prod, foot stirrup, cables, string, cams)
- Rail lubricant
- 4-arrow quiver (instant detach)
- 3x 20″ aluminum arrows with field points
- Instructional DVD and assembly manual
- The 3x Pro-View 2 scope
- Warranty card (more on this below)
- Assembly bolts and Allen wrenches
How To Assemble The TenPoint Lazer HP Crossbow?
Assembling the Lazer HP is very simple and will take 15 minutes at most. The images in the assembly manual are black and white, however they do a great job of illustrating the process. Here are the steps I had to follow:
- Attach the provided cable saver to the cables according to the illustrations.
- Secure the prod to the stock
- Secure the foot stirrup to the front of the crossbow
- Screw in the quiver mount
- Mount and secure the scope
All bolts and assembly hardware was provided with the package. I did not need to use any of my own tools to complete assembly.
How Powerful And Accurate Is The TenPoint Lazer HP?
The Lazer HP is advertised as delivering 313 FPS of velocity, which according to my tests with the supplied arrows is very slightly understated. The actual velocity was 317 FPS. While it’s still one of the slower weapons in TenPoint’s line of compound crossbows, it’s still more powerful than most will ever need.
After shooting 10 or so bolts I just couldn’t wait to go hunting with this crossbow. It was so comfortable to hold, aim and shoot. Accuracy was just as good as with any other TenPoint compound. The x-bow was factory-sighted and was perfectly zeroed right out of the package. Quarter-sized bolt groups from 30, 40 and 50 yards were trivial. When I moved the target to the 60 and 70 mark, accuracy suffered a bit, but I was still getting 2-3 inch groups quite comfortably.Use our arrow ballistics calculator for more valuable information.
Ballistic Data For The TenPoint Lazer HP
Your actual results will vary slightly depending on weather, and significantly with arrow weight change. See our Crossbow Ballistics Guides section for a complete understanding of how we conducted our tests and why this data matters.
Is The Lazer HP Good For Hunting?
With the energy output this crossbow provides, it’s more than just suitable for hunting. I actually bought it with the goal of taking down moose with it. Managed to harvest one from 40 yards away – the bolt went right through, piercing both lungs and exiting comfortably on the other side, with enough energy left to kill a wild turkey. I’m sure the shot would have been just as deadly from 50+, maybe 55+ yards away.
I do need to mention in this review that the Lazer HP weighs 8.25 pounds. It can be a little heavy at times, so I recommend getting a sling to make carrying it in the field easier.
How Loud Is The Lazer HP Crossbow?
It is relatively loud, even for a compound. This is a pretty common theme for most TenPoint crossbows. I don’t consider it a con however – you still only get one shot at your target when hunting anyway, regardless of how quiet or loud the crossbow is.
ACUdraw 50: Cocking TenPoint Lazer HP
Please note that the TenPoint Lazer HP comes with the ACUdraw 50 system, which should not be confused with the regular ACUdraw device found on other TenPoint crossbows. While ACUdraw functions pretty much as a tiny crank cocking aid, the ACUdraw 50 is a rope cocking aid. So you’ll still need to put in some energy to cock your crossbow – exactly 50% of the draw weight.
The advantage of the ACUdraw 50 is that it’s attached to the butt of the stock. This is quite comfortable as you don’t need to carry the cocking aid in your pocket.
How Good Is The Scope That Comes With The Lazer?
The Lazer HP comes with the exact same scope you’ll see with other TenPoint crossbows, such as the Maverick HP. The 3X Pro View 2 is a 3-reticle illuminated-dot scope. There are 3 crosshairs, but 4 dots in total. It’s super-accurate for 20, 30, 40 and 50 yd. targets. Five different brightness settings make it easy to adjust illumination intensity depending on your hunting conditions. Illumination can be either red or green, depending on your choice.
The scope is fog-proof and water-proof. Optics gather light extremely well and provide a very clear, wide-field view. Almost like looking through quality binoculars. The dots are small enough not to reduce vision of your target, but large enough to make them very easy to see. One of the better scopes you can have on a crossbow. It is sold separately with a list price of ~$250.See our detailed guide on how to sight-in your crossbow
What Arrows/Bolts To Use With The Lazer HP Crossbow?
The three 20″ aluminum arrows (2219 XX75) that come with the TenPoint Lazer HP are perfect. If you want different bolts, make sure they weigh 400-450 grain in total, including inserts and points. Using 500 and even 545 grain bolts is also acceptable, although velocity (FPS) will suffer, being reduced by around 10% (it might not sound like much, but it makes a big difference when target shooting). See our guide on arrow drop and kinetic energy for a better understanding.
Hunting broad-heads are not included with the package and you need to buy them separately. I recommend expandable broad-heads, as long as they are legal in your state. You can also learn more about crossbow arrows and take a look at our broadhead recommendations
Safety And Design
I’d like to finish off this TenPoint Lazer HP crossbow review by mentioning two of the cooler safety and design features incorporated by the manufacturer.
Trigger action is superb. Comes with a 3.25 lbs. pull. Exceptionally smooth action and a clean, no-jerking break. Feels so natural it becomes almost an extension of your index finger. TenPoint calls this technology “TouchTrigger.” I just call it “awesome.”
The GripSafety button is a nice addition, especially for beginners not used to properly holding a crossbow. It’s simply a plastic button installed on the side of the fore-grip. It’s there to remind you where to place your finger(s) when holding the crossbow. This contributes towards safety and helps you keep your fingers below the surface of the bolt rail.
Lazer HP Warranty
As with any TenPoint crossbow, you get a lifetime warranty on the crossbow itself (limited to the life of the original buyer/owner). You also get a 5 year warranty on the ACUdraw-50 cocking aid. Make sure to read the warranty terms before using your crossbow as some activities will void the warranty, for example:
- Dry-firing or partial dry-firing
- Attempting to alter the trigger assembly or any other part of the Lazer HP crossbow
- Attempting to disable the GripSafety button
What Crossbow Case Fits the TenPoint Lazer HP?
The SKB Hunter Series Crossbow Case is a great fit for the TenPoint Lazer HP. It is a hard case with wheels for convenience and costs close to $300. The Tarantula Deluxe Crossbow Case is a great fit for those who prefer soft cases and smaller prices.
TenPoint Lazer HP Crossbow Review – Summary
Thanks for reading my TenPoint Lazer HP crossbow review. It’s definitely a great weapon to have, and you can’t really go wrong with it regardless of your experience or goals. My only qualm about this crossbow is that it comes with the ACUdraw-50 rather than the crank-based standard ACU-draw device.
