TenPoint Carbon Xtra Deluxe Package Contents

Let’s get this TenPoint Carbon Xtra Deluxe crossbow review started. I bought my package from a local pro-shop, though you can expect the contents of your box to be exactly the same if you buy online:

  • The Carbon Xtra crossbow (prod, stock, cams, string, cables)
  • Cocking foot stirrup
  • Integrated ACUdraw crank-cocking device
  • RangeMaster™ Pro Scope
  • 4-bolt quick-detach quiver
  • 6x excellent Elite Hunter 20″ carbon bolts. Broadheads included
  • 6x bolts with field points
  • Crossbow storage and travel hard-case
  • Crossbow soft-case
  • TenPoint’s SteddyEddy™ aluminum monopod
  • Crossbow care kit including wax, lubricant
  • Bowjax noise-dampening kit (more on this below)
  • Grip protective shield
  • 2x Maintenance certificates
  • Printed manual and instructional DVD
  • TenPoint’s warranty (more below)
  • Assembly bolts and keys

Quite a list, isn’t it? It only makes sense though when you consider the price of the Carbon Xtra Deluxe.

How To Assemble The TenPoint Carbon Xtra Deluxe Crossbow?

Assembling the TenPoint Carbon Xtra is straightforward and exactly the same as with any other compound crossbow. It’s the Bowjax noise-dampeners that were somewhat new to me, but still found them very easy to install. You simply attach a few of the dampeners to the stock and a few to each limb. Assembling the crossbow itself is a 3-step process:

  • Attach the prod to the stock
  • Install the quiver mount
  • Mount the scope

How Powerful And Accurate Is The TenPoint Carbon Xtra Deluxe?

TenPoint Carbon Xtra DeluxeThis is a 345 FPS crossbow. It’s as powerful as crossbows can get, and there’s really no need to say any more. It will shatter anything in its way. Even when shooting at 80+ yard targets you will still hear a loud “thump” on the bolt’s impact, and the bolt will dig in a good 5 inches into the compressed foam. If maximum power is what you are looking for, this x-bow will NOT disappoint.

Accuracy is superb as well. The bolt rail is perfectly polished – zero friction upon bolt acceleration. Limb action is superior even when compared to other top-of-the-line TenPoint crossbows. The SteddyEddy monopod that came with the package increases accuracy even further, especially when shooting at targets located 60+ yards away. More on the monopod further below.

Ballistic Data For The TenPoint Carbon Xtra DX

Your actual results will vary slightly depending on weather, and significantly with arrow weight change. See our Crossbow Ballistics Guides section for a complete understanding of how we conducted our tests and why this data matters.

Is The Carbon Xtra Deluxe Good For Hunting?

The Carbon Xtra is the best hunting crossbow you can get. The power and accuracy are unmatched. Bolt speed is so incredible that no animal in the world will have time to react before its hit. You can easily take down a bear with this x-bow, and even an elephant in countries where its legal. This crossbow will shatter any bones and penetrate any fatty tissue the bolt impacts. If you can hit a deer or elk accurately from 70 yards, the TenPoint Carbon Xtra will take it down. Just make sure to use high-quality bolts that won’t break on impact.

TenPoint’s SteddyEddy™ Aluminum Monopod

The SteddyEddy monopod (amazon.com link) included with this crossbow package was an awesome addition I did not expect. It normally retails for $80. The SteddyEddy is a light-weight, aluminum monopod you quickly attach to the stock using a ball-joint. You can set the length of the monopod using an extension knob. The SteddyEddy renders your crossbow motionless. The monopod can be rested either against the ground, a treestand, or simply against your waist if you are shooting standing. You can see a video of the monopod in action here.

How Loud Is The Carbon Xtra Deluxe Crossbow?

Without dampeners installed, the TenPoint Carbon Xtra is quite loud. This is a non-issue in my opinion though, as its so fast that noise doesn’t matter in a hunting scenario.

Bowjax Noise Dampeners

TenPoint includes a set of Bowjax Noise-Dampeners with the package. This set usually goes for around $50. The dampeners are attached to the stock and limbs, and are supposed to reduce the noise levels emitted by the crossbow when shot.

Here’s my impression:  while the dampeners do indeed reduce noise-levels, I found it not to be an extreme difference. What I did like however was that the duration of the noise was significantly reduced. I liked that because it makes it easier for me to listen to my surroundings after firing a bolt at my target while hunting. I’m sure you’ll appreciate this as well.

ACUdraw: Cocking TenPoint Carbon Xtra Deluxe

The ACUdraw is a small, 1 lbs. device attached to the butt of the stock. It’s pretty mucha mini crank cocking aid. You can use it to draw the crossbow almost effortlessly – even a child could do it. The device is small and discrete enough that it can be left permanently attached to the crossbow and you won’t even notice its there while shooting.

Just keep in mind that it’s relatively loud. Make sure to cock your crossbow early enough, otherwise the sound will scare your pray away.

How Good Is The Carbon Xtra Deluxe Scope?

I’d like to briefly mention the scope in this Carbon Xtra review. The package included the RangeMaster scope, which can be separately bought for $300+ and is one of the two best crossbow scopes I’ve ever seen. I’ve already talked about it in our review of the TenPoint Stealth XLT, so you might want to head over there and see what we had to say.

What Arrows/Bolts To Use With The Carbon Xtra DX Crossbow?

You’ll be getting a total of 12 bolts with the Carbon Xtra Deluxe package:

  • Six carbon bolts with broad-heads
  • Six carbon bolts with field points

If you’d like to buy some extra arrows, make sure that they are:

  • 20″ long
  • 425 grain in weight total (shaft, insert, and point head combined)

The shafts included with the package are straight and durable. Perfectly capable of handling the massive power output of this crossbow.

Safety And Design

Anti dry-fire mechanism. This makes it all but impossible for the string to disengage, even if the trigger is pulled, unless a bolt is seated in the rail.

Beautiful design. I know it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, but this really is one of those crossbows you want to.

Carbon stock. Very rare in the industry due to how relatively expensive carbon is. The crossbow is therefor exceptionally durable and light-weight at the same time.

GripSafety button. You’ll find this on almost all of TenPoint’s crossbow, so it’s no surprise the Carbon Xtra has it as well. It’s basically a button that helps you keep your finger(s) low enough below the track to prevent the string from hitting your fingers when shooting.

TouchTrigger system. Another TenPoint-standard technology. A 3.25 lbs. pull trigger with action I can only compare to high-end rifles.

TenPoint Warranty And Maintenance Certificates

A lifetime warranty on the crossbow and a five year warranty on the ACUdraw system is offered by TenPoint. So far though I have not had to take advantage of it as everything seems to be working perfectly. There were also two maintenance certificates included (a $200 value). You can take your crossbow to an authorized TenPoint service center, hand in a certificate, and they’ll go over the crossbow inch by inch, making sure everything is working properly.

What Crossbow Case Fits the TenPoint Carbon Xtra Deluxe?

The SKB Hunter Series Crossbow Case is a sturdy hard case option to stow the TenPoint Carbon Xtra Deluxe in. It sells for around $290 and comes complete with wheels for easy travel. If that is a little rich for your blood, opt for the Tarantula Deluxe Crossbow Case. It is an excellent soft case choice for about a quarter of the price.

TenPoint Carbon Xtra Deluxe Crossbow Review – Summary

This is THE best crossbow I have ever owned or shot. Package contents are unmatched in the industry, as is the power output, design quality, durability, ease of handling and everything in between.
