Assembling The Crossbow

Barnett Zombie 350 CRTI had the Barnett Zombie 350 unboxed and assembled in less than 10 minutes. All that was required was to attach the prod to the riser and then mount the scope, and then I was ready to rock and roll. The foot stirrup is integrated into the prod, making assembly quick and easy. Sighting in the scope was quite easy, taking only a few shots to be ready for accuracy and power tests.

Accuracy And Power

The Barnett Zombie 350 is a definite powerhouse, hurling its 400-gr arrows at a blistering 350 fps. The arrows pierce the target ahead of 109 ft. lbs. of kinetic energy, making the Zombie 350 one of the most powerful crossbows on the market. Once the crossbow was sighted in, I was able to gauge the true accuracy of the crossbow. Let’s just say I would not be afraid of many zombies with this crossbow at my side. I was able to keep a dime-sized grouping of arrows from 30 yards, and a 2 1/2” grouping from 50 yards. I am not sure I’ve seen many crossbows that were that accurate.

Hunting: What To Expect

Barnett Zombie 350 CRTWith the Barnett Zombie 350 CRT, any legal game in North America is a good target. This crossbow is more than powerful enough to take down the biggest grizzly bear or Cape buffalo, and I’ve harvested a couple of large bucks with mine. During one hunting trip, I fired at a 14-point buck from around 40 yards, and the arrow went clean through and then lodged in a tree trunk. That buck ran off about 25 yards before he took his dirt nap. At a light 7.6 pounds, this crossbow is quite nice to carry around in the woods. For added comfort, attach a padded sling to the preinstalled swivels. Since the Zombie 350 is painted matte black, this crossbow would work exceptionally well from a ground blind. You do not have to worry about light reflecting off the paint and you should be able to sit with this crossbow in your blind in total darkness.

Cocking The Barnett Zombie 350 CRT

With its 175 lbs. draw weight, you will not want to draw the Barnett Zombie 350 CRT by hand. Fortunately, Barnett includes a rope-cocking device in the box. Drawing the crossbow string back is smooth and easy with the rope-cocking device. Some might suggest you purchase the optional hand-cranking cocking device; you can if you want, but try with the rope-cocking device before you spend the money. You might be surprised at how easy it is!

The Crossbow Scope

The crossbow scope included with the Barnett 350 Zombie CRT is a basic illuminated 3 x 32mm scope. You can switch between red and green illumination, and the scope’s brightness can be changed between five different brightness settings. I found that in low-light conditions, the brightness settings weren’t quite bright enough to be readily seen. It is a decent scope, but it’s not top of the line and it’s probably the only thing about this crossbow that does not shine. The scope does sight in quite easily, as stated earlier. In fact, it was almost completely sighted in right out of the box, requiring only a single adjustment for windage and another for elevation before it was zeroed. The scope has held zero for almost a year without requiring any adjustments.

Arrows

This crossbow ships with 4 20” 400-gr arrows of decent quality. I have been using my Excalibur Firebolt arrows with the crossbow, after changing the nocks to fit the Barnett. This crossbow will shoot just about any arrow you can think of, but make sure you use at least 400-gr arrows. Because of how powerful this crossbow is, I would absolutely not recommend using aluminum arrows unless you like buying arrows. The sheer power of this bow is great enough that I have seen it go straight through 5/16” steel and still drive its way into a compressed foam core target. Aluminum arrows will get bent far too easily; better stick with carbon arrows for this crossbow.

Safety and Design

The Barnett Zombie 350 CRT is designed with Barnett’s patented Carbon Riser Technology, which reduces much of the weight of the crossbow, especially near the front of the crossbow. The result is not only a lighter crossbow, but also a crossbow that is not as front-heavy as many crossbows. The Barnett Zombie 350 has two tactical rails for mounting accessories, one at the top back and one at the bottom front. The scope typically mounts to the top rear tactical rail, and the quiver to the bottom front tactical rail. For the ultimate in zombie-hunting fun, though, I removed the quiver and mounted a tactical flashlight and laser pointer. This is, of course, illegal for real hunting but it’s a true blast for target shooting. I have seen multiple problems with Barnett crossbows eating up strings, but that’s one problem I haven’t seen with this model. I’ve probably fired 400-500 arrows from the Barnett Zombie 350, and haven’t seen any sign of the strings fraying or coming apart.

Warranty

Barnett crossbows are covered under a 5-year limited warranty that covers the stock, trigger mechanism and limb assembly against manufacturer defects. Barnett says that the strings and cables and any damage caused by abuse are not covered by the warranty. When you purchase your Barnett crossbow, make sure to mail in the warranty registration card within 10 days to activate your warranty. Barnett’s customer service is excellent, with very knowledgeable and friendly staff on hand to help with any problems you might have with your crossbow.

What Crossbow Case Fits the Barnett Zombie 350 CRT?

The Carbon Express Deluxe Case is a nice soft case option. It is available for only about $66 and accommodates many types of crossbows. For those with larger scopes the Allen Company case may be purchased for less than half that price.
